Meet The Athlete | COLLEEN DUNN
Colleen Dunn of Billings, MT started running 2 ½ years ago after two of her three daughters encouraged her to run a Fourth of July 5k with them. With literally only a couple days of training, she endured and completed her first running race. Now, hooked, Colleen loves running for her health and well-being.
Colleen is a stickler for keeping time and pace, whether it’s a training run or participating in a local race. Her pre-race ritual includes: a banana, peanut butter sandwich, all washed down with nothing else but a Diet Coke. Again, not one to mess up routine, one of her favorite runs is around a small lake a half-mile from her house, Lake Elmo. This 1+ mile loop is almost always incorporated on a training run.
Since her inaugural race, Colleen has participated in many races ranging from 5ks to half marathons. She is now looking to add a marathon to her “race” belt in Fargo, North Dakota.
One of Colleen’s craziest running stories was in 2009 at the Missoula Marathon where she participated in the half marathon. Her goal was to finish under 2 hrs. While keeping a good time, she was on pace to do just that. Until… around mile 12 she received a call from Mother Nature. After a stop at a porta-potty, she bolted out and ran like the dickens to still finish in 1:59:18!
The Race | FARGO MARATHON
May 22 2010 | Fargo North Dakota
The Fargo Marathon is best described as Flat, Fast, Friendly & Fun. Not a race most people would typically think about doing, right? Fargo… North Dakota!?! BUT Fargo recently received the Runner’s World Reader’s Choice Award as the #1 Best Value Marathon in America and the 8th Best Overall Marathon in America (January 2010)! It has a wonderful showing of crowd support – a must as the mils pour on.
Colleen is looking for Fargo to be her very first marathon. Not only is she running Fargo for Race4Equality and Bright Hope. Fargo happens to be 80 miles south from her eldest son’s hometown, Grand Forks. He also is running the marathon in Fargo along with her oldest daughter and son-in-law, who are doing one marathon-a-month for Bright Hope.
The Goal | $500 FOR BRIGHT HOPE SCHOOL
Colleen would like to raise $500 for Bright Hope School in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
