Bright Hope School

Race4Equality believes that education is one of the best ways to fight against poverty.

This is why Race4Equality has chosen to help aid Bright Hope School along with other churches and organizations on the projects necessitated, so that the children there can stay in school and learn.

Why Bright Hope |

Unfortunately, many schools in Sub-Sahara Africa are unsafe and under resourced. Race4Equality athletes are tackling this challenge by aiding Bright Hope School in security, agriculture, and trade so that children can get the education they deserve.

A Little About Bright Hope |

Bright Hope is a school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Ethiopia is one of the top 5 poorest countries in Africa with 4 million orphans. In Addis Ababa alone there are 250,000 homeless orphans, many of which will not reach adulthood.

Bright Hope School is in a very impoverished neighborhood in Addis. There are around 2,145 students grade 1st through 8th who attend Bright Hope. Of these 2,145 students, most have lost one or both of their parents to HIV/AIDS or leprosy. There are 3 – 500 orphans attending Bright Hope with approximately 110 orphans in 4th grade and under. Teachers at Bright Hope will pool their income to feed the 110 younger orphans breakfast. For many, this is the only meal that they will eat all day. There are 16 known children who are HIV positive.

The government funds the education of the students at Bright Hope, but any extra services for the students and orphans has to come from outside sources. The Principle of Bright Hope has a vision of helping these students by establishing a fresh water source and a self-sustaining foodsupply, which will not be provided for by the government – this needs to be done through people like us.

By providing a fresh water source and a self-sustaining food supply, Bright Hope School will be able to feed the children, supply fresh water to drink, teach the children a useful life skill, and possibly sell any excess vegetables and chickens to the public.

“The children do not have a chance if they do not get a good education. The neighborhood poverty is overpowering and these kids will be swalloed up by this without a good education. The garden vegetables, eggs and chickens will supply for years the nutrition they need to climb out of their terrible situation.” – Cory Baron, Childrens Hope International
